Student Council – Students are elected in the spring to serve as officers or representatives. Members of the Student Council sponsor dances, choose spirit days, and lead volunteering efforts in fundraising events and mission projects. They host the new Warrior Welcome, an orientation event for new Middle and Upper school students, and serve as school ambassadors at admissions events. They serve as official hosts at Grandparents Day, choose sporting event home game themes, create graphic materials for promotional events, and choose the “fan of the game”. The members of the CCS Student Council serve as the Upper School leaders on campus.
CCS Theatre Department – Students have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of activities in the CCS Theatre Department. Two productions are presented annually: the fall Drama is a school-wide play presented in late November or early December and the Spring Musical performed by Middle and Upper school students. In addition, the Upper School students participate in the Mississippi Delta Tennessee Williams Festival held annually in Clarksdale, MS. Students may join the One Act Competition Team to participate in the annual Mississippi Thespian Society competition. CCS students also attend the Junior Theatre Festival Competition in Atlanta where they enjoy three days of adjudications, workshops, and mainstage events that involve various musical theater. Our Theatre Honor Society is dedicated to honoring the talents and achievements of students who excel in theatre arts and contribute to the vibrant cultural tapestry of our school community. In February 2024, our Honor Society attended the Mississippi Thescon festival and received the Rising Star Troupe Award.
Robotics Team – Upper School students compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge, sponsored by the University of Mississippi. The team is tasked to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team. The robot kit uses a variety of levels of Java-based programming. The season concludes with a regional championship and winners advance to state and potential national competitions.
Speech and Debate Team/Mock Trial Competition – Upper School students have the opportunity to compete in the Mock Trial Competition hosted by the Mississippi Bar Association. The competition is a simulated trial where participants take on the roles of lawyers and witnesses in a fictional court case. Students compete against other Mississippi high schools in one of three regional events and the winner advances to the statewide competition.
Quiz Bowl – Students compete in teams of four to answer general knowledge questions on a wide variety of topics including literature, math, science, popular culture, and current events. Players earn points for their team by buzzing in first and answering correctly. Our students compete in the annual MAIS Quiz Bowl Tournament as well as other competitions in the Jackson-metro area.
Chess Team – The CCS Chess Team practices before and after school. Students compete in the MAIS Chess Tournament and other competitions hosted locally. Competitors play in Swiss-pairs and follow the US Chess Federation’s Official Rules of Chess Rulebook.
